Jewish Senior Life’s Artist-In-Residence to Perform for Cottage Residents

Rochester, NY — September 28, 2021 — Jewish Senior Life’s artist-in-residence, Ashlen Wright, will perform at 5:30 PM on Thursday, October 7, at Cottage 2. Wright is a vocalist studying at Nazareth College who provides music for all of the residents across the campus in exchange for reduced rent on an apartment at Marian’s House – Jewish Senior Life’s daytime respite program for people with early to mid-staged Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

In addition to her studies and providing music for Jewish Senior Life, Wright works at an internship at BOCES. She is the second student to participate in the program and is slated to receive her baccalaureate degree in December.

“We are so appreciative of our relationship with Nazareth College. The students share their musical expertise with our elders; bringing them much joy and social connection throughout our campus,” says Ann Barton, Program Manager for Marian’s House. Barton initiated the program in 2019 after reaching out to Nancy Pettersen Strelau, Associate Director, School of Music at Nazareth College.

Marian’s House was named in honor of the late Marian Farash on behalf of The Farash Foundation. Located at 2980 South Clinton Avenue, it provides meals, supervision, and specialized programs in a warm, home-like setting. Participants can enjoy one-on-one and group activities, such as cooking, gardening, exercise, reading, games, and of course, music.

The performance will be at the Cottages on the main campus at 2021 Winton Road South.
