Advocacy Updates — In the News

Jewish Senior Life has joined hundreds of nursing homes across the state to urge Governor Hochul to prioritize seniors and skilled nursing care in January’s Executive Budget Proposal. We have been advocating for a 20% increase in New York’s outdated nursing home Medicaid rate. Here is why this is so important:
  • The cost of caring for Medicaid residents is higher than the payments nursing homes receive.
  • New York is the only state that does not have a system in place to adjust Medicaid rates relative to inflation.
  • New York has not increased Medicaid rates for 15 years.
  • New York is the only state that cut nursing home funding during the pandemic.

Jewish Home resident council president, Susan Howell, wrote an op-ed that was featured in The Buffalo News last week and the Democrat & Chronicle this past Sunday (page B9.) Additionally, the Alliance for Senior Care in Rochester submitted an op-ed to Rochester Beacon and Rochester Business Journal (below.)
