JUNE 20, 2022–ROCHESTER, NY—Jewish Senior Life will be participating in The Longest Day on Tuesday, June 21, to raise funds and awareness for the care, support, and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. The annual event traditionally garners thousands of participants around the world that select an activity of their choice, including: exercise, games, hobbies, art, and more. Jewish Senior Life tie-dyed purple shirts two weeks ago in preparation for a full day of walking where employees can sign up for 15-minute intervals.

The walk will take place from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Adult Day Health Program guests will walk from 10 – 10:30 a.m. and 3 – 3:30 p.m. Staff are encouraged to wear the purple shirts, and purple masks will also be available at the screening stations. The event committee will be in the gazebo handing out snacks and swag bags, and bracelets will be for sale for $25 to support the Alzheimer’s Association. Marian’s House, Jewish Senior Life’s daytime retreat for those living at home with early-to-mid stages of Alzheimer’s and related dementias, will also be sporting purple tie-dye and participating in relay format.

“We are pleased to partner with the Alzheimer’s Association to shed light on the darkness of this disease. This event gives our families, residents and staff an opportunity to come together and fight the disease that affects so many of those we serve,” says Courtney Porray, Director of the Clare and Jerry Rotenberg Institute on Aging at Jewish Senior Life. She continues, “Each year, we participate in the Alzheimer’s Association’s Longest Day events; and we have a large community presence that has grown annually.”

Jewish Senior Life provides various levels of memory care services for people living with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementias. In addition to Marian’s House, The Lodge at Wolk Manor is a specialized assisted living environment for those with dementia and other kinds of memory loss, and features an intimate, home-like layout. The Jewish Home provides the most advanced programs and households for those in need of long-term and skilled nursing services.

The Jewish Senior Life campus is located at 2021 South Winton Road and Marian’s House is located at 2980 South Clinton Avenue in Rochester.
