Jewish Senior Life has been included as a chapter in a new book edited by Farhana Ferdous and Emily Roberts, (Re)designing the Continuum of Care for Older Adults: The Future of Long-Term Care Settings. The book details new care environments designed to be inclusive and progressive to meet the needs of the aging population.
The chapter on Jewish Senior Life highlights the organization’s commitment to a person-centered care approach and adapting their physical environment to better support this model. This led to an $83 million expansion project in 2017 designed by Perkins Eastman, which included three Green House-certified Cottages and a renovation of the Jewish Home of Rochester—Jewish Senior Life’s skilled nursing affiliate located at the Farash Tower.
With the cottages and tower neighborhoods designed like real homes to enhance wayfinding and personalization, Jewish Senior Life’s President and CEO Michael S. King is quoted in the book, stating, “We’re really working on deinstitutionalizing the nursing home.”
